I spent three months in Bavaria last summer; I know the feeling. Every time I sat outdoors I was assaulted by wasps.

I'm the geometric artist. I use Inkscape and Gimp. I draw polygons and sometimes vectorize and clean up people's scanned lineart. I also sometimes make animations with perl scripts but I feel limited in my programming skills.
